A Beanie Baby (also know as a Beanie Kid in Australia) is a stuffed animal made by Ty Inc. Ty was founded by Ty Warner who promoted the line in specialty stores and gift shops. The Ty company's famous special "posable lining" is under stuffed with plastic pellets (or "beans") rather than stuffing (see PVC and PE), giving Beanie Babies a flexible and cuddly feel. A Beanie Baby is essentially a fancy bean bag in the form of a stuffed animal.

The original nine Beanie Babies launched in 1993 were Legs the Frog, Squealer the Pig, Spot the Dog, Flash the Dolphin, Splash the Whale, Chocolate the Moose, Patti the Platypus, Brownie the Bear (later renamed "Cubbie") and Punchers the Lobster (later renamed "Pinchers").[citation needed] The line became a phenomenon in the late 90s when Beanie Babies became both a fad and a collectible. Ty decided to stop making Beanies in 1999, however, consumer demand made Ty Warner change his mind. He continues to run Ty Inc. and design new Beanie Babies to this day.

Teenie Beanies, an offshoot of the Beanie Babies line, were made by additional manufacturers for a few McDonalds Happy Meal promotions.

Collectibility

Beanie Babies began to emerge as popular collectibles in late 1995, and became a hot toy. Ty systematically retired various designs, and many people assumed that all "retired" designs would rise in value the way that early retirees had. The craze lasted through 1999 and slowly declined after the Ty company's announcement that they would no longer be making Beanie Babies. The line was brought back with completely new styles in early 2000 as a result of an online vote over whether more Beanies should be released. Many believe that the mass retirement and subsequent revival were a publicity stunt, but Beanie Babies had fallen out of favor with many children by the time the line was relaunched. In recent years, the popularity of Beanie Babies has continued to fade. Some of the more common styles can be found fairly cheaply. New Beanie Baby designs continue to be released, and increasingly include bears and limited edition items. On December 27, 2007, Ty made a massive retirement of its Beanie Baby line, retiring over 240 styles of Beanie Babies, leaving only licensed characters, key-clip versions of popular Beanie Baby styles, popular store exclusives and country exclusives as current. On January 2, 2008, Ty introduced a "replacement" line called Beanie Babies 2.0, the next generation of the beanbag toys. While the aforementioned current styles will continue to be produced and special Beanie Babies will be released, the remainder of future retail styles will be produced under the new line, in which collectors can purchase their Beanies and use a scratch-off code to go online and play with their new pet in a virtual world, much akin to other collectibles like Neopets and Webkinz.

Oly has an obsession with "babies." she doesn't usually destroy them, at least not on purpose. She has had some for years. I brought home "Mickey Ratt" because I know she especially likes this size toy. She LOVES him. She carries him around, likes to fetch him, and even lays down with him and sucks on him, like a baby with a pacifier. I'm sure she's really nibbling on him somehow, but it's the funniest-looking thing. I'll try to post a video. Oly loves the crinkle noise and the squeaker. I'm super tickled that she loves the octopus, which I just bought last weekend, even MORE. She nibbled off bits of Mickey Ratt's ears and legs, but he's mostly intact still; his tail is handy for when we have to toss him at fetch, so we don't have to grab his sopping-wet body. Likewise Inky's arms. Oly doesn't drench his arms so much, so we can huck him across the room by the dry-ish arms. She usually fetches him for a few tosses, then goes off by herself to suck on him for a while. I hope everyone's dogs love these little guys as much as Oly does!

I have purchased at least 8 of the Bow Wow Beanies. They have held up really well to all that the dogs do to them. No matter which one I give the dogs they love it. I have small dogs and the small size is perfect. They really like the crinkly sound they make. The toys also have the traditional squeekers but the crinkle sound is their favorite. Before these came out I would buy cat toys that made that sound but didn't like the idea that they had cat nip in them. I hope they never stop making them.

Our dogs (Chihuahuas) have used these toys before... they are, virtually, indestructible and hold up well in the washer and dryer. Prior to discovering Ty toys, my dogs would tear apart every plush toy we bought them (we wasted more money on inferior products). As a footnote, our dogs have never had a "favorite toy"; now, at three "plus" years, they're stuck on Ty! They, especially, love the Mouse.

My dog, a shorkie (half yorkie half shih tzu) LOVES this toy. I am planning on buying more so that he will always have one. The crunchy sounds and the squeaker, make playing with the toy a pleasant audible experience, while the ears, tails, whiskers, and appendanges allow him to play with various parts. It is so adorable when we play fetch with "Squeaks" and Dobler (my dog) comes back with the toy by the tail the remainder dragging behind him. It was especially adorable when he first came home and the toy and the dog were close in size!

Alvin and the Chipmunks: Limited Edition Gift Set (with Ty Plush & Digital Copy) Alvin and the Chipmunks: Limited Edition Gift Set (with Ty Plush & Digital Copy)

I bought this for my 4 year old and was disappointed in the language used by the characters. My own memories of Alvin did not include such words and attitude. (Maybe I date myself here.) The first story was OK. The second one we had to turn off and I had to hide the DVD. Maybe it's not for a 4 year old (or younger) but honestly, I won't be letting them watch it when they are 5 or 6 even. They have a lifetime to learn those words so I don't want them to learn them from Alvin and his brothers now. Why do writers include such???

The cover mislead me to believe that it was a christmas movie of alvin and the chipmunks. My two year old loves them and this turned out to be a movie that he already had.

This movie is both funny and teaches a lesson. It teaches through the characters Alvin, Theodore and Simon that when you do something, you need to live up to the consequences. I liked this movie and so did the three children I watched it with (my little cousins). I'm glad that it is not all animated and I liked the way that they used both animation and real life acting. Most anyone will like this one. It's a must see for people who loved the cartoon. Although the voices do get just a bit annoying (they did for me anyway). Still, it's a funny cute movie that will have you saying "awww".

I loved this new updated Alvin and the Chipmunks movie ! Jason Lee was perfect as Dave Seville. It was very funny and entertainment. The animation for the chipmunks was very well done. I recommend watching the DVD extras at the end. The history of Alvin and the Chipmunks was very interesting on how they were created. For example, in the movie Dave Seville's address is 1958 - well, thats the year that the Chipmunks were created. A very enjoyable and funny movie.

Garfield and Friends: Dreams & Schemes (Includes Exclusive Pooky Mini-Beanie Plush!) Garfield and Friends: Dreams & Schemes (Includes Exclusive Pooky Mini-Beanie Plush!)

Reviews

I love this show; I used to watch it all the time as a kid. I still think Lorenzo as the voice of Garfield was by far the best. This is a summary of shows from the series Garfield and Friends. Beware if you already own the tv series on dvd, however. These are taken directly from the series, so you are basically just having the convenience of skipping directly to the garfield cartoon from the US Acres cartoons and the shorts. It is different than the ode to odie and ode to garfield sets which are also taken from the tv series, however. I'm a fan and the price was still nice for me to own this summary dvd and the tiny beanie baby pookie, but stay away otherwise.

The video is Garfield (what more can I say). The animal is really cute and my son loves it. It's about the size of my hand so it fits well in his hands.

My son loved this gift, plain and simple. We also purchased an extra one for his friend as a birthday gift and the result was the same. The key to making this DVD extra special is the little stuffed animal that comes with it. It is a very nice touch, especially when used as a gift. Who would have thought that a stupid old cat would be such a hit with 8 and 9 year olds.

Let's see, currently on Amazon, the DVD, Garfield: Dreams and Schemes, is selling for $9.98, and this is selling for $7.49, WITH the Pooky plush toy. Hmmm...this is a tough decision folks... I was thrilled when I saw this... As you can tell by my name, I like Pooky just a tad... This little plush toy is very cute! I added it to my collection, and couldn't be happier. I haven't watched all of the DVDs in the Garfield collection, but I almost 100% certain that the cartoons on this DVD are repeats from the main set... I probably wouldn't have purchased this if it didn't come with the Pooky plush, but I am glad to have it none-the-less.

My daughter loves this DVD and expecially the Pooky toy. The Pooky toy is softer than I had expected and is great. The DVD is of mostly Garfield's dreams and were alot that we had already seen on the Garfield season 1 and 2 DVDs, but there were also some that we hadn't seen. However, it is good to have the dreams and schemes grouped together like that. I would definitly recommend this product if you love Garfield and Pooky (of course).

My 4 year old grand daughter watches Max & Ruby on TV just about everyday. I bought this pair for her so she could play with them while watching the show. She has a lot of fun pretending they are alive. No rough play, so they should last. This was a good deal with the free shipping.

My daughter is in love with Max and Ruby. She loves having the little dolls while she reads her pop-up book. They look exactly like the characters in the show.

The Max and Ruby plush are from TY. My 3 1/2 year old son loves them. They are typical of other TY Beanie Babies in size and feel. I would say that for the price in comparison to other Bean Bag plush these would compare in price and overall build.

My toddler loves, loves, loves Max & Ruby. For X-mas I wanted to get her something from her favorite show, but found it hard to come by! When I saw this set, though, I knew she had to have it! 6 months later, she still sleeps with them and gets them together to watch their show with her! I also made her a paper frog (Max's Froggy Friend) to put in his little overall pocket, and she got a real kick out of that! Adorable and durable, hold up better than other beanies in my opinion and have also gone through the washer a few times each with no problems!

These stuffed animals are really cute and of good quality. My son loves them. He always watches Max and Ruby on Nick and we also have several DVDs of them.

Ty Beanie Baby Boots Dora's Monkey Ty Beanie Baby Boots Dora's Monkey

Reviews

Boots was purchased as a gift for my grandchild. He was fairly priced, arrived promptly and was very well packed. "Where did you find Boots?" were the first words from my grandchild. The excitement was a joy to behold! He is the perfect size for little hands to hold and cuddle as the child watches the adventures of Dora and Diego!

Bought it cheap for my son, thought it might be the size of a teddy bear or so and he likes boots. When it arrived i was embarrassed to give it to him, WAY too small. Product looks deceptive and looks like a small version of a toy that can be "won" in those 50 cent gaming machines at dennys. Will never buy from this company again.

Boots goes along perfect with Dora and Swiper. They are fun to play with together.

The Monkey is cute and very small. I don't think that it could be an Educational toy. It doesn't do anything, a child can only look at it and put it in their mouth. How much fun can it be. I just purchased it just to purchase something. The ratings I gave it was on what I saw of it and what I felt when I looked at it and touched it. The mother just smiled when I ask her if the baby like her toys.

After reading some of the reviews, I was expecting this toy to be really tiny. It's not, it's an average size, actually, it's exactly 8" tall, just like it says here. It's supercute and looks exactly like Boots is supposed to look, except it's a bit long and narrow, Boots is shorter and has a tummy :) I bought it together with Swiper the Fox and they are about the same size. My daughter loved them since she loves Dora and everything that has to do with Dora, and prefers smaller toys.

Swiper was purchased as a gift for my grandchild. He was fairly priced, arrived promptly and was very well packed. Swiper is just the right size for little hands and is the perfect companion for watching Dora and Diego adventures!

This is the perfect size for little ones. It is very durable, and fun to play with.

I bought this($5.99 gold box special) as a stocking stuffer for my CAT. He opened the box from Amazon before I got the chance and removed Swiper from the box. Ever since, Swiper is his "buddy"..... he plays & sleeps with Swiper. Never seen a CAT so taken with a stuffed animal as he is with this one.....I hope Amazon puts then on a Gold Box special again.

I bought this for my 2 yr old granddaughter...She loves watching Dora and Swiper is a favorite. Both she and her pet dog love it!

Well made, can't beat the price for a name brand character and, wonder of wonders, it actually looks EXACTLY like the character it's supposed to be which seems to be quite unusual for plush character toys.

Warman's Bean Plush Field Guide: Values and Identification Warman's Bean Plush Field Guide: Values and Identification

Reviews

I had one before - I gave it to my child - he submerged it in water - I replaced and will keep for my self

Warman's Bean Plush Field Guide (2nd Edition) is a big must have for collectors. Its got all the facts in it needed for evaluating beanies and other selected beanie like items. Its small size makes it great for a trip to the flea market etc. The only draw back I could find is that it end with 2007. I sure hope they do an update soon.

This is the best little book ever, (Tool for us collectors) can take it with you everywhere, compact and neat. 4 x 5". Use as a resource manual. I got into beanie baby collecting in 2006, buying Holiday beanies. Love to look through and see which ones I want to purchase, search for, or verify which one I actually have. I will not tell my age, but its over the age limit for beanie collectors, but I am addicted. The pictures are bright and they are referenced by Name*****. So easy to use, may purchase several copies due to wear already.

While this book doesn't include every beanie ever made, it does have 1,200+, with a clear color photo for every one listed. About 70% of them are Ty, which makes sense because that's by far the most popular maker. And the photos are big enough to easily identify the beanies. It's got the best photos of beans and Ty tags that I've seen in a beanie book. It's not an exhaustive manual, but it does have a lot for its size. After all, it's a pocket field guide, not an encyclopedia. Also, it has a lot of information and tips on how to buy and sell beanies on eBay. While the prices are lower than secondary store prices, they're right on for eBay. Overall, I'm really pleased with it and I definitely think it's worth the price.

I bought this book today because I'm an avid Ty collector. There are so many Beanies not listed, and hardly any of the various other types of Ty products. Also only a few pages of each of the other brands of plush when I know there are so many products. This is just not a very complete book. If you want a much better, although still not perfect Ty collector guide, go to Bangzoom Press and buy the Beanie Babies Value Tracker from them.

Got this for my son for chirstmas last year. My son loves this book. The TY beanie baby Ming Ming is SO cute!!! He still plays with it and reads the book. :) Great price too!

My 4 year old loved the beanie baby. The book is a very short version of the show. The pictures are nice, but if you haven't seen the show you might not understand the short amount of text. The book is a nice size for little hands to hold and to carry around.

I was a little shocked how small the doll was. The book was also tiny. My son loved it though and, I guess that's all that matter's.

The book and beanie are very cute, however, the book is very small and only a few pages.

Very cute-for the Wonderpet fanatic. Very good price. Ming Ming small but nice. Small book but also cute..Good deal for the money..

The Beanie Baby Handbook The Beanie Baby Handbook

Reviews

I've been "spring" cleaning this "summer" (haha) and came upon this particular Beanie Baby book; boy did it bring back fond memories of our hunt for beanie babies! I got rid of alot of books, but this (and my other Beanie Baby book by Les & Sue Fox) is staying! The recipes are precious with the appropriate beanie baby representing it, for example, BONES PAINTED SUGAR COOKIES - there's a colorful picture of several beanie baby dogs, Bones, Rover + others. It also includes the nutritonal facts for each recipe. Each recipe has a beautiful color photo on the right hand side of the book and the recipe is on the left. You will love this book! I did (do)!!

Hi. It's been 10 years since Sue and I published the first edition of The Beanie Baby Handbook. The third and final edition (the cookbook) was published in 1998. In case you're wondering, we've attempted to publish an up to date book but Ty will not give us permission. (???) In looking over the Amazon listing, and people's comments, first, they made a mistake on the number of pages. This is a 218 page book, not a 40 page book. Each of the 52 recipes is a 2-page color spread with amazing photos created by Jeanette Long (still our neighbor and friend here in Wyckoff, New Jersey). Jeanette actually cooked, baked or prepared all of those foods, and brought them to a world class food photography studio. Kids and families love Jeanette's recipes, and in my opinion this is not only a wonderful book about Beanie Babies, it's one of the best kids' cookbooks ever published. Anyway, Sue and I are still incurable collectors. We are professional American art and rare coin dealers (19th & 20th Century), we build custom homes, and we manufacture a neat little calorie counter that you may see on TV in December or January. We've also developed a new product called Rare Coin Trading Cards, which we hope to launch as soon as we set up a national distribution system. We published Beanie Baby trading cards in 1998, but Ty asked us to stop when they began publishing their own cards. (Darn.) Beanie Babies were a big part of our life in 1997 and 1998, and I don't think we'll ever have another experience like that again. Although we did create a unique collectible known as autographed coins with two former U.S. Presidents (Ford and Bush) in 2001 and 2002. One of the reasons I posted this message is to tell the many people who write to us that we cannot publish a new edition of The Beanie Baby Handbook without written permission, or a license, from Ty. In 1997, they allowed us to publish the Unofficial edition, but that ended in 1998. Les and Sue Fox

i had this book back as a child and after giving it a way years ago, i remembered recently what cute recipes it had in it so decided to get another copy! it was such a bargain and there's so many different cute ideas perfect for parties and many other occasions!
