The Broadway Album The Broadway Album

Reviews

This is by far Barbra Streisand's greatest album. We are still waiting for the Broadway songs that she also recorded such as 'Heather on the Hill', 'How Are Things In Glocca Morra',etc. Streisand's breathtaking voice stands on it's own; the song selection is impeccable and the lush orchestrations are next to none. Streisand's 'Broadway Album' is truly one of the most definitive albums of the 20th century. When I listen to the album today it seems just as new and fresh as when I bought it back in 1985. Streisand the singer/actress and her selection of material stand the test of time and will be heard by future generations as the premiere talent of our time.

The girl has talent! Not a sing-a-long unless you're as talented as she is. Anyway, it's fun to listen to while you're driving.

As Barbra is a singer-actress with a distinguished career in both singing and acting, it is entirely appropriate that she should record albums filled with music composed for theatrical productions. This 1985 album was the first album that Barbra devoted exclusively to cover versions of Broadway songs. This re-issue includes one bonus track, recorded at the original sessions, but which doesn't strictly fit the basic theme as it was written for a London musical. We'll come to that later. Barbra clearly has a soft spot for the music of Stephen Sondheim as there are seven songs here that he either wrote alone or co-wrote with Leonard Bernstein. One of those tracks (Putting it together, from Sunday in the Park with George) opens the set, although the composer wrote new lyrics especially for this album. Barbra's incredible singing voice is not so evident here as it is on most of the tracks that follow. One other track (Adelaide's lament, from Guys and Dolls) is in a similar vein but Barbra is in top form on the remaining eleven tracks, all of which she sings superbly. The most famous song from Carousel (the musical) is You'll never walk alone, which Gerry and the Pacemakers covered against the advice of their record label, who were obviously wrong as it became a huge international hit for them. Barbra eventually recorded that song but not for this album, choosing instead a much less famous song from the same musical, If I loved you. While it will never be as famous as You'll never walk alone, it is a superb song. I'm glad that Barbra chose to include it here. From West side story, Barbra chose to include two songs here, these being Something's coming (not so famous, but well worth hearing) and Somewhere (one of the finest songs ever composed for a musical). Not while I'm around (from Sweeney Todd) and Being alive (from Company) are wonderful songs that I hadn't heard before picking up my vinyl copy of this album. The two musicals are also represented by one more song each, these being combined in a medley (Pretty women / The ladies who lunch). Barbra also included a medley from The king and I (We kiss in a shadow / Something wonderful) and a medley from Porgy and Bess (I loves you Porgy / Porgy I's your woman now). Can't help lovin' dat man (from Showboat) completes the original album. This is a truly magnificent album, complete with liner notes and song lyrics, that all Barbra Streisand fans should own.

Ok, so I was alittle hesitate to actaully listen to this album, because I was afraid that it might be alittle to balladly. But I actually wound up liking the album, because she tried to use more updated sounds to older broadway classics. The first track really took me by surprise, and I loved how she tried to take a stand against what was considered popular. I then loved how the next few tracks mixed in 80's synthizer with broadway type sounds. Which in a way she tried to make it a bit radio friendly for some of her audience. I was alittle cautious to hear her sing I love Porgy(because I didn't think she could put any soul into it.) But she wound up making it sound flawless. Overall, this is a good album, but I wouldn't put it as her best. There's a few other songs in which she really sings her heart out on a better level.

The Broadway Album by Barbra Streisand is clearly one of her very best. Barbra really opens up on this album and belts out some of the greatest Broadway show tunes ever written. The sound quality is great and the artwork is very well done. "Putting It Together" starts the CD with Barbra singing her heart out on this number; she handles difficult tempo and key changes like the great chanteuse she always was and still remains! "If I Loved You" from Carousel features Barbra front and center--and that's OK by me! The melody is very pretty and it makes great use of the strings. Barbra's voice is in excellent form--her voice is rich, warm and rather vibrant. Terrific! Similarly, there's another coup for Streisand when she sings "Something's Coming." This magnificent ballad from West Side Story really shines like new when this lady sings it! Barbra again handles the lyrics effortlessly; the key and tempo changes never seem to faze her in the slightest. I'm very impressed! "Not While I'm Around" comes from Sweeney Todd; and Barbra gives this the royal treatment as she sings this to perfection--and beyond! The piano arrangement is especially elegant and it all holds its own very well. There's a very grand medley of hits from The King And I; listen for Barbra to do great justice to this stage play with her medley of "I Have Dreamed/We Kiss In A Shadow/Something Wonderful." This medley is a fine tribute to a classic Broadway play that truly remains one of the very best of all time! Barbra does this to perfection--and beyond! I love it. "Adelaide's Lament" comes from Guys And Dolls; this tune always makes me laugh a bit because it's just that type of song. Although Adelaide is somewhat sad it's just a playful tune in its own way. Barbra sings this with panache and her accent is flawless. Barbra makes "Adelaide's Lament" a huge highlight of this album. In addition, "Send In The Clowns" from A Little Night Music gets one of its best treatments ever when the great Barbra Streisand delivers this without a superfluous note. "Can't Help Lovin' That Man" again showcases Barbra's vocals squarely front and center--I really like "can't Help Lovin' That Man" a whole lot. This musical arrangement is very well done, too. "I Loves You Porgy/Porgy, I's Your Woman Now (Bess, You Is My Woman Now)" comes from Porgy And Bess; and yet again Barbra Streisand delivers this with panache! Great! The album ends with Barbra singing "Somewhere" from West Side Story; this truly is as grand as all the other reviewers say it is; you'll love every second of it! The Broadway Album really showcases Barbra Streisand's singular vocal qualities. Her fans will definitely want this one for their collections; and people who like show tunes will want this album as well.

Average Rating:

As its title indicates, this 1985 recording marked Barbra Streisand's return to her Broadway roots (significantly, she had dropped her pop-period Guilty perm and returned to straight hair). The CD contains a broad selection of show tunes, from Guys and Dolls's "Adelaide's Lament" to Sweeney Todd's "Not While I'm Around...

Raggedy Andy Costume - Adult Costume Raggedy Andy Costume - Adult Costume

My husband wore this costume for the last Halloween. It fit him well (5'7" 185 lbs). IT was perfect for him, although a little long on the pants (but again my husband is not very tall). We wanted to be Raggeddy Anne/Andy family---the baby wore the toddler size-- we heard from many people that we were the best costumed family. We did well. They actually thought I made them myself. The price for this outfit is perfect. All in all, we spent about $120 for THREE COSTUMES. Not bad. I highly recommend this product to any guy out there who is not afraid to get lots of attention from other guys...and wives who wish their husbands will do the same for their daughters on Halloween.

Costume was shipped fast and well packaged. The Costume was well made and fit well (average size guy 185 LBs at 5'11"). The Wig fit well too. Comfortable for an all night party filled with dancing and fun.

Mattel DC Universe Classics Wonder Woman Figure Mattel DC Universe Classics Wonder Woman Figure

Reviews

Hello All, I have enjoyed the entire line of figures produced by Mattel for the DC Universe. Whereas the figures produced by DC Direct are clearly made for display, the toys from Mattel are made for playing. This is evident by the many points of articulation on all of the figures in this series. Compare it to the DC Direct toys in which the characters are limited to one or two poses. I gave this character a slightly higher rating for education value than I have for other action figures. Wonder Woman is an important fictional character. While not the first female super hero she is the best known. It is important for children to learn that women and girls can save the day, too. This particular toy comes with a cool Amazonian axe and shield. Accessories are always cool. Like the other female characters from Mattel (Big Barda, Harley Quinn, etc.) the hands are a bit too small, making it difficult to get the figure to actually hold on to her axe. The shield locks firmly to the character's forearm. There is a base that comes with the figure. It was intended to act as the base for the big figure, but it works just fine for Wonder Woman if you don't want to purchase the other figures in this series. Finally, I am pleased that this Wonder Woman is not cursed with an absurd anatomy. Wonder Woman has to be able to run after bad guys. An absurd bossom would hinder crimefighting. Regards and Best Wishes, Donald Eric Kesler

This figure of the very imposing character of Wonder Woman is an adequate buy. Its a durability is questionable as well as the paint apps. Where this figure really grabs you is its fair amount of poseability which to my knowledge is probably the first of its kind excluding probably an old MEGO doll. I was also impressed with her head and hair sculpt; quality you don't usually see in a mass market toy. Her accessories are juvenile at best and would have been better suited with some other types of accessories like spears and javelines as she is an amazon but again its a "kid's toy". Its a fairly solid buy but only if you plan on building your own justice league with the previous released heroes.

Wonder Woman 1:6 Scale Deluxe Collector Figure Wonder Woman 1:6 Scale Deluxe Collector Figure

Reviews

First think I do really like this figure. But it is flat out over priced. Everywhere I see it the figure runs for $80- $100. That is nearly the price of the statue that has a pose similar to the one they chose to put the figure in. My two biggest complaints of the figure would be that the head is totally immobile. Her hair prevents any movement even side to side. And her costume. It looks fabulous, But getting it to stay up over her breasts was quite a chore. The zipper on the back was pretty hard to get up all the way and if that is not fully zipped the top tends to slip down a bit. One other minor complaint is the limit on the sets of hands. Powergirl comes with three sets. One fist. One set in a grip, and one flat handed set. WW only has the flat hand with the fingers extended or fists. She can't really hold her lasso at all unless you set it up in there like the image shown. Had I known what I know now I probably would have saved a little more up and bought the statue. It's not a bad toy, but just not nearly as good as the others like it.

The quality of the paint of the head and specially the face is so inferior if you compare it with other Deluxe items, the quality of the body looks "plastic" and even fragile, but the clothes and the rest are great. The expression of the face is really bad; I had to paint the eyebrows to improve them, the eyes are very small in relation to its head. Jorge

Barbie as Wonder Woman Doll Barbie as Wonder Woman Doll

Reviews

NOTHING ELSE TO SAY IT IS A GREAT DOLL.EVERYTHING IS COOL.I JUST LOVE IT. THE OTHER DOLLS LIKE PORCELAINS, OLD DOLLS and OTHER MEGOS SHOULD BOW DOWN TO THIS DOLL NOTHING BEATS THIS DOLL. IT IS WORTH IT....IF YOU FIND ONE GET IT...I THINK THIS DOLL APPRECIATES.

I am a Barbie collector and this is by far my favorite. She looks exactly like Linda Carter in the old Wonder Woman show. After searching for this doll in several other internet toy stores and Ebay this was the best price around. I am very very satisfied with my purchase. I only regret that I didn't buy two. Will be looking forward to seeing this doll available again soon.

I purchased this doll and i must say she is lovely. Her costume is just like lynda carter's. I love her rosy red lips, almond-shaped blue aqua eyes, and ebony hair. Her stockings last a long time. I wish her boots were hard instead of cotton made. She is worth the wait.

What can i say.....when i first saw her i was awestruck!!! i had to go and purchase 2 of them. 1 to keep in the box and the other to put on display out of the box(naturally). This doll is exquisite!! Mattel did a wonderful job on her. The quality is amazing!! I love the fact that they used the modern version of the costume which george perez( my all time favorite comic artist!!)created when the comic was revamped in 1987.the addition of the cape was also a nice touch. the only small complaint is that the stand is the one that grabs the doll around the waist..therefore wrinkling her costume and could possibly cause a tear if not care fully removed... i much prefer the other type of stand.( fortunatly i ad an extra stand at home and discarded the one that came with the doll). If you are a wonder woman fanatic(like me) then this doll will be a great addition to your collection!!

I am a Wonder Woman fan, so of course when I saw this doll, I knew I just had to have it! She turned out to be great! There was only one minor problem with her, but I'll get to that in a minute. She looks great in her costume! Instead of the eagle on some original costumes (in the comics) of Wonder Woman, she has a "W" on her red top, which is connected to the blue with stars bottom, (so I guess it's more like a leotard type of thing.), which I think looks excactly like the real costume. She also has the gold belt, gold rope, (which she is holding), her ed boots with the white stripe, her gols headband, her blue cape with a red with stars and white bordered trim, and some very lightly tinted white tights. The only problem was her hair. I have had my Wonder Woman doll since Christmas 2001, and her hair is still kind of "flat", curly, but flat from how she was placed in her box. It has started to fall out a bit, and I'm pretty sure it will in a few more months. Believe me, this doll is definatly worth the money, because you will enjoy her so much in your collection!
