Toy Boats
Ship models or model ships are scale representations of ships. They can range in size from 1/6000 scale wargaming miniatures to large vessels capable of holding people.
Ship modeling is a craft as old as shipbuilding itself, stretching back to ancient times when water transport was first developed.
Modern era
In the early part of the 20th Century, amateur ship model kits became available from companies such as Bassett-Lowke in Great Britain and Boucher's in the United States. Early 20th century models comprised a combination of wooden hulls and cast lead for anchors, deadeyes, and rigging blocks. These materials gradually gave way to plastic precast sets.
The development of tinplate and improvements in machine tools enabled significant advances in ship modeling from 1900 onwards. Thin, workable sheets of iron could be coated with tin to prevent rusting, then mass-produced as parts of ship model kits. The process was pioneered by French ship model manufacturer Radiguet, which produced a line of zinc boats with pressurized steam engines, wooden decking and brass fittings. The speed of production for tinplate vessels enabled one 1909 manufacturer to produce ship models of speedboats that had competed that year in Monaco.
Ship modeling in the United States experienced a boom in the 1930's when Popular Science magazine published an extended series of articles and plans for famous ships by modeler and former Navy officer E. Armitage McCann.
In recent years, widespread internet access has played a major role in promoting ship modeling, offering enthusiasts the opportunity to show off their work and share techniques. Internet sites such as Modelwarships.comand Steelnavy.com are oriented to plastic model ship builders, while others such as Hyperscale focus largely on aircraft or other subjects can regularly feature plastic ship models as well.

Step 2 WaterWheel Activity Play TableReviewsMy 3 year old son loves playing with this we just got it yesterday. super easy to put together and really durable. Great value I love Step 2 products. They are sturdy and are a great value in my opinion. This table was a steal for twenty-eight bucks and I highly recommend it to others. It can be used inside (with toys, not water) and outside (with water) for optimal fun! Great way to get a water toy that the dogs can't play in too! My one year old son got this for his 1st birthday. It was a rainy day so we set it up in our kitchen. He played there for over an hour (his attention span is not normally that long) along with his two big sisters (ages 6 and 8). I think they had just as much fun as he did. I think it will last a long time and will be a great thing for them to play with when the weather warms up. My only thing is that I wish it had a cover to keep bugs out when not in use. That is the only reason I gave it 4 stars. We got this table when my daughter was not even walking yet and she pulled herself up on it. She is going to be 3 this May and still LOVES this table. Besides being fantastic to fill up on the front porch in the summer time and let her have at it, I also use it in the winter - I put it in the kitchen and fill it with either rice or sudsy water. Sure she gets some on the floor, but it sweeps/vacuums up easily, and you just put a bucket under the drain plugs to empty it. Awesome for a snowed-in day! I would completely recommend this for anyone! My 2yr old loves this thing and so do we. Its great for the backyard or even a small covered patio. Its especially nice when its warm out because she gets to play as well as cool off - plus I dont have to worry about her drowning if I turn my back! Definitely a Good Buy for outdoor fun! There Goes a Boat (W/Toy) [VHS]ReviewsThis is our fourth Dave Hood "There Goes a .... " video and, I think, the best. This is the first one we've seen with Becky, and I thought she was a nice added element. Dave's comic bits are less distracting and performed better than when he depends on amateur bystanders. He does a wonderful job of making the videos informative as well as entertaining, and I find I haven't minded watching this tape (over and over again) at the same time our toddler loves watching the images and jokes (over and over again). In the course of this 35-minute video we visit a U.S. Navy cruiser and nuclear submarine, the Star of India sailing ship/museum as well as a small sail boat, cargo ships and hammerhead cranes (as seen on Amazing Race 2), a fishing boat, a tanker (with a 7-story engine room!), a tugboat, a U.S. Coast Guard cutter, and a luxury cruise ship. Kids get short, sweet encouragements to stay in school and use their life preserver.I think this and "There Goes a Fire Truck" are the best in the series. My toddler son really loves the Truck and Motorcycle videos, which have a great deal of action and keep his interest all the way through. I thought he would surely enjoy "There Goes a Boat". Unfortunately, he lost interest almost immediately. So much of the video is spent either inside the boats (technical-type stuff, which went right over my son's head) or with Dave/Becky goofing around (which I found particularly excessive in this video). I think he would have preferred some speedboats or more "out and about on the water" scenes. Overall, a dull choice compared to others in the series, although older children may find the technical information interesting. MY 3 YEAR OLD LOVES THIS VIDEO.IT IS VERY EDUCATIONAL AND INFORMATIVE FOR CHILDREN.IT SHOWS KIDS CRUISE SHIPS,TUG BOATS,SUBMARINES,TANKERS AND OF COARSE DAVE AND BECKY MAKE IT EXTREMELY ENJOYABLE FOR KIDS. My son enjoyed it very much. Dave and Becky make the video fun as well as entertaining. This video wasn't nearly as good as the Firetruck, train, or bulldozer videos. Dave needs to stop trying to be so entertaining and be a little more informative. Average Rating:![]() |

Titanic in a Tub: The Golden Age of Toy BoatsReviewsI have been fascinated by ocean liners since I was a little kid, and this video had a great deal to do with that! I used to watch Titanic In A Tub when I was home sick from school (probably as early as Kindergarten) and stole the tape from my folks when I moved away from home years ago. I just ordered the DVD and can't wait to see it in a high resolution format. The shots of all the toy boats and the wonderful sweeping nostalgic shots of the real ships that inspired their design makes this a video I highly recommend. Average Rating:![]() |

Banana Boat Kids Tear-Free SPF #50 Continuous Spray 6 oz.ReviewsThis is the worst sunscreen I ever spent money on. Not only is it expensive for what you get, it doesn't work. The lotion drizzles out- not sprays and you have to use both hands and a lot of force to get it to do that. It also stings if it washes off into kids eyes. I reapplied on a sunny day every 45 minutes to an hour and my kids were still burned- not a spf 50 like it says. Don't waste your money. Average Rating:![]() |

Bose 201 Series IV - Speaker - 60 Watt - 2-wayReviewsBought the Bose 201 Series IV a year ago, they are the predecessor to the current model, Bose 201 Series V. If you are experienced in home audio, its obvious that just picking up one of these 201's feel much lighter in weight than your typical higher-end bookshelf speakers, of comparable or even smaller size. Cheap construction, the cabinet was only partially laminated, leaving exposed fiberboard. When you connect your wires, you'll notice Spring loaded terminals, lacking the Binding posts found in higher quality, comparably priced brands. I removed the grille and inspected further, the tweeter and woofer cones are all made of paper. Just for fun, I unscrewed the 6 1/2" main Driver and inspected the inside. There were no connectors on the end of the wires, instead I find that the wires are hand tied to the woofer's terminals (See for yourself!) I connected the Bose 201's to my Denon AVR-1706 7.1 Channel receiver in Stereo Mode. These speakers have no enjoyable high nor low frequencies. There is no improvement in sound quality between the Bose and my HDTV's internal speakers. These speakers seem to augment the sound in an unnatural manner, and the direct-reflecting feature is bogus. I proceeded to connect my Klipsch SB-1's bookshelfs and ran an A/B test through my receiver on a variety of movies music and games. The Klipsch's blew away the Bose's. Dont be suckered into any of Bose's products. If youre looking to break into high end audio, go for Infinity, Polk Audio, JBL, Boston Acoustics, Klipsch, which can be had for much less than comparable Bose models. The only thing Bose should get credit for, is their world class marketing strategy. You read a lot of technical jargon in these things. Listen, if you want a good stereo sound at a decent price - these SOUND good. They are full and responsive to almost every type of music you play through them. If you are looking for super Bass response you need a subwoofer but these suffice fine without one. Cheap but sound awesome. 301s are even better and 501s are better yet but these are great. These speakers are truly amazing. The sound is so crystal clear and really makes it feel like the concert is in your living room. The vocals really come to life. These speakers are a great buy. Toy BoatReviewsI LOVE LOREN LONGS ILLUSTRATIONS!!! this book captures your attention with its mood catching illustrations. I purchased this book after the reviews i read here. I don't regret it. The story of this toy boat going on his own adventure and then wanting to come back home is great to read to my little one (almost 3). My son wants this book read often and is definitely one of his favorites. One of mine too!! This is a truly wonderful story. My son received this when he was two years old, a year later and we are STILL reading this book at least once a day. My son is a very active boy but will always sit down and read this book. I'm purchasing two additional copies - one to save for when he's older and another because the first copy has been read so many times its quite worn! A must for every little boy!!! this book is great. I read it at work for the 4 boys I nanny. Toy Boat is a simple story enhanced wonderfully by the vibrant illustrations of Loren Long. My son loved the tale of the boat and was intrigued when it was lost in the churning waters with the big boats. He also loved the conclusion, when the boat returns to the open hands and heart of his young boy. The illustrations take this story to a much higher level. Together, the text and artwork make for pure enchantment. Shipping was quick and the book is a great story for kids. The pictures are wonderful! I bought it for a Kindergarten teacher who loved it. TitanicReviewsThis book is told from the point of view of a reporter on board the Titanic's maiden voyage and his notes that were (supposedly) going to be published after the ship docked in New York. So in addition to presenting information about the ship, it's voyage, and it's demise, you also get a (fictional) first person narrative about the voyage. One item to note: This book contains a number of smaller pieces of paper contained within pockets in the book. I'd recommend this book for older children that will be able to keep these pieces with the book, lest they get lost. Average Rating:![]() |

Intex Explorer 200 Boat SetReviewsI think this is a great boat for the money. We are really looking forward to using it at a small lake near us this summer. It is just right for one adult and a small child to zip around the lake. I love the fact that the oars are included and the boat color stands out amoung the rest in the water. For the amount of time we will be using this boat the price is perfect. Very happy with this purchase ! We had one of these when my son was little...it held up for a whole summer tubing down the creek before it got a hole in it. Purchased one just recently for my daughter to use the same way. It got a whole in it the first trip down the creek. I don't think they are made as well as they used to be. This would be a great toy for the pool but isn't so great for our use. you get what you pay for here. single chamber, thin plastic, and a small valve. consider it a pool toy and not a lake toy. about a week ago I was at a local small resivoir and i saw a bunch of kids a little younger than me having awesome fun in these little boats so i hsowed my parrents and got one the next day these little rafts are great!! I am 14 and even i could paddle it all the way across this 1 mile lake. so if your just looking for a coo lnew pool toy or a awesome little boat then youve found it!! I say if you like water and boats then get one ant it is only $20.00 bucks if you dont like it (if that is possible) so what it is $20.00it is allso educational because you have to learn how to paddle with Wind, and waves safely I went camping recently up in Priest Lake Idaho. I was looking for something to do so I bought this boat, not really realizing that it was a children's toy. I'm 6'3" so it looks pretty funny when I get in this thing. Everyone thought it was hilarious, it was worth the price just to see my mother laugh so hard. Anyway, I ended up paddling this toy roughly 3 miles through rough water and against the wind and this little boat hung in there. I thought the rubber oar loops were going to rip out from the intense rowing but they never did. I went on to beat it up the next day rowing from one ilsand to the shore and it still held up. I got pulled over by the water sheriff too, he thought it was funny as well.Bottom line, this is a strong little rubber raft. I rowed this thing around until I couldn't life my arms. Kwik Tek® Hull Hugr Contour FenderReviewsThis is easier to store than the large round bumpers and it really stays in place. It has worn well so far (we have been using this Hull Hugr for about a year. So far this product has performed greatly. It is just what we needed for docking and protecting our ski nautique. We've used them about 2 months now. The suction cups work very well and help us to get the bumpers right where we need them. They also do not take up a lot of space in the boat. I'm curious to see how well the product lasts... I'll update if there is any trouble with the durability. Average Rating:![]() |

Rust-Oleum 215173 EPOXYShield Concrete Patch, 24-OunceReviewsThis crack filler is excellent! Easy to mix and use. If you paint or epoxy over it, it will look shiny and smooth on the surface, but I used the 2 part expoxy paint with the colored speckles and it all blended in very well. Make sure to clean out the crack first. This work just as described. I had a good size crack in part of my foundation and I used this to seal it up and smooth it out. Just follow the directions and it works great. Product is easy to use, just mix the 2 part epoxy. My problem with the product is that the repairs (patched or filled areas) are visible when top coated with Rustoleum garage paint. By visible I mean that the repairs are more glossy and easily seen. If that is not a concern, then the product fills / repairs as advertised. Average Rating:![]() |
